For players aged 5 - 9
Friday Night Cricket is aimed at our youngest cricketers, ages 5 to 9, who are either new to the game or looking to build on their current skills.
Our sessions are based on New Zealand Cricket's Smash Play Program. For more information, please visit NZC's Smash Play Website https://play.nzc.nz/games/programmes/2
For the 2024/25 season, Friday Night Cricket starts on November 1st and runs until December 13th (pre-Christmas). We’ll start up again on February 7th and go through to March 21st (post-Christmas). There will be no session on December 6th due to the annual Santa Parade at Huapai Domain. Our registrations never close throughout the season so you can register anytime.
Players are placed in age-grade teams either in Superstars or Kiwigrade, based on their age as of November 1st. Superstars is for players aged 5-6, and Kiwigrade is for players aged 7-9. They will remain in these groups for the season.
Superstars Cricket is for players ages 5-6. Session are run as follows:
6:00 pm - 6:35 pm: Skills Session Our club coaches will begin with a warm-up, then split players into groups to rotate through different skill stations, each lasting about 10 minutes.
6:40 pm - 7:00 pm: Quik Cricket Each group plays a game of Quik Cricket. Every player will have a turn to bat while others field. For the first game, batters will hit off a tee, with six hits each. As we progress, we’ll introduce bowling to the batters. Parent volunteers are welcome to help with fielding support to keep the games moving smoothly.
Kiwigrade Cricket is for players ages 7-9. Sessions are run as follows:
5:30 pm - 5:55 pm: Skills SessionCoaches will start with a warm-up, then divide Kiwigrade players into two groups. They’ll rotate through different skill stations, each lasting about 10 minutes.
6:00 pm - 7:00 pm: GamesGames are structured to keep players engaged and having fun. Each week, a player from each team will act as captain and lead the toss.
Players should wear a Kumeu Cricket Club shirt, which can be purchased directly from the club. They can wear shorts or pants—whatever is comfortable. Closed-toe shoes, preferably trainers, are required.
Nothing! The club provides all the necessary gear for players. While we appreciate the enthusiasm some players have for bringing their own bats, we prefer that only club-provided bats are used due to past incidents. This helps ensure consistency and safety for all players.
While we are fortunate to have dedicated coaches, assistance is always welcome. Whether you can help by supporting the coach, running a game as a coach, umpire, or scorer, or assisting with the BBQ, tuck shop, or other tasks on the night, your contribution makes a significant difference.
We’re currently running a special registration rate of $80.00 (normally $145 for Superstars and $165 for Kiwigrade). Family discounts for multiple registrations or enrollments in other club programs do not apply.
